There are 43 days of summer left, and mine already feels like it’s winding down. I have never hiked, soaked, and saunaed this much in my life—all over Colorado, across Switzerland, and during the layovers back home in Brooklyn. I made driving playlists. I built a growing queue of sauna songs. I crafted my new “To The Moon 🌙” hiking mix while crunching pine needles on the trail to Blue Lakes.
I scored my own summer like a film.
I fly home today, which I’ve dreaded all week but suddenly don’t this morning. My rollie bag has been packed and unpacked so many times that the zipper sticks. I want my own bed, my dog, my shower products, my coffee mug. And I get to take my three children home with me!
Still, getting on the plane this morning changes my summer soundtrack from alpine air to Brooklyn sidewalks.
The kids don’t go back to school until after Labor Day, so what’s left of summer is the Brooklyn version. More Aufguss practice. Longer walks with Willa. Faster runs by myself in Prospect Park, where I’m about to cash in on a month of altitude training. Soft-serve ice cream with the kids just because. (FYI, ice cream and longevity are linked.)
