Favorite quote in the Alloy article:

“I would love to be able to expand beyond BMI because in the weight management community, that’s only one number. There are a lot of other things we look at to understand somebody’s metabolic health”

So. Much. YES. I personally cannot stand BMI. I look at it this way: what if you have a 6’ 5”, 250lb athlete(or not) who eats all the right things, lifts heavy, drinks his aminos and creatine (I had to throw that in there because you know we love them 😉 ); that makes up a BMI of about 30 which is considered obese.

BMI doesn’t take into account muscle mass, fat percentage, bone density, etc.

I know this isn’t what your Substack post was on, but I really loved that article you linked and that it touched on all the right things about the glp-1 meds!

Thank you Hanna! I feel the same about BMI. Might be a good Substack topic for both of us. :)

Ooooooh. BMI. I’m 6’2 and 245ish. In broad and bulky. Yes, I’m carrying some excess weight but my blood panel is fantastic and my health is very good and I’m strong. But my BMI is 32. Thankfully I have a young doctor who cares more about the whole picture than BMI :) . Love the Monday deep dive with all the news.

BMI is useful as a baseline snapshot of a population. If my doc only cared about my BMI I’d be bummed.
