This is great. My days in the office are with a ruck full of books and laptops and a walk across Manhattan. I think it’s fantastic GR hired a creative director. This space can and should explode.
I’ve thought that at some point GR would go mainstream. I think the “rucking because running sucks” was the best way to get people into it. Really excited to see what you cook up!
I met J a long time ago and loved him. He was cool enough to work with my bud Mike V on a model for skateboarders. Mike did Ascent, and we all thought it was hilarious you had to sign a death release. I have travelled around the world with my red GR1, and I cannot imagine me doing anything that would ever cause it to fail or me to go with another bag.
There is a dude name Mike in Wisconsin who did an early Challenge and on the way home stopped at a truck stop and fell asleep in the walk in beer cooler.
Great post and interview. I started rucking in December 2023 after reading The Comfort Crisis by Michael Easter. Rucking—along with a few other tweaks—has radically changed my health and body composition. Huge proponent of rucking! I’m looking forward to your contributions to GR.
I started this article not knowing what rucking is and then realized I already Ruck when I do backpacking trails or walk to work :) I love the idea of running to work and think I will try it this spring (I have a quick 1 mile commute if I don't have to go to daycare). Thanks for the fun article.
What a funny coincidence. I had never heard of GoRuck before my husband requested one of their weight packs for Christmas last year. Honestly, I thought it had more of a military/dude-vibe and didn't think it was for me. But I've been borrowing his pack when I walk the dog and I love it! Definitely helps me get more out of the walk (planning to get him/us another weight plate soon). I'm happy to hear you're involved with the brand, because I think you'll show how rucking is relevant and fun for women, too! (I already sent this newsletter to my dog-walking friend)
What a cool opportunity! Does giving my 6 year old piggy back rides count as rucking? 🤣. We live in our van and travel full-time. I’m seriously going to look into this as I get stronger for longer hikes/carrying tired kids. 💛
I have a GoRuck bag and put a 20lb plate in it to walk the dogs and find it so uncomfortable on my shoulders! I like kind of hate the whole walk so I stopped. Would a vest be better??
I would start with a 10 pound plate and build up to 20 as your body gets stronger/acclimates. And stay tuned bc GORUCK has a weighted vest for women coming out! Keep up the awesome work, Emily.

I’m so psyched to be working with such an awesome brand and amazing team!

Congrats and lucky for them. We’ve started a nice little rucking crew at RW with the help of some Goruck supplies.💪
That is awesome!! What a great idea.
I just bought a weighted vest today!!! And this shows up in my email!! Yay!!! Going to follow Goruck on Insta right now!

You sure do! And you’re not alone. Keep it up!!!
I love following you and I love GoRuck! Am still new on my rucking journey (6 months). I love it! GoRuck is worth every penny!
Strong agree! So psyched to work with GR!
I guess I’ve been rucking for years and didn’t even know it 😂 I hike and walk everywhere with a kiddo on my back
Anyway, congrats on your new role! Sounds exciting
